What Is Written about Your Business Reputation: YouControl Shows Investigations in the Mass Media

With the help of YouControl, mentions of counterparties in the mass media can be found even if involved persons would like to hide unpleasant publications. We are telling you how and why it is important to use these opportunities.

Search for mentions in the mass media is a part of proper customer due diligence. In Western companies such an inspection is mandatory, and Ukrainian companies are just beginning to implement it. And it is a great way to get to the "new level" of doing business and to make business intelligence as informative as possible. The need to check mentions in the mass media is an integral part of reputation management and cannot be neglected.

Checking of mentions in the mass media is also needed to analyse the "past" of a company or a person.

For such purposes, we created the tool "Media reputation", which integrates media investigations into the profiles of individuals and legal entities in the analytical system. A concomitant goal is to archive socially important media investigations.

Why to Check Mentions in the Mass Media?

According to Regulations №65 and №107 of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), within the legislation on financial monitoring, subjects of primary financial monitoring (SPFM) are obliged to "obtain additional data about customers by searching for information about them in open sources (for example, official sources, public registers, websites of trustworthy media)" (Annex 6, paragraph 4).

But even without strict "instructions" from the controlling bodies any business that is reasonably careful when interacting with new partners seeks to get an objective overview of their activities.

This tool for complying with the provisions of law and reputation management can be used by law enforcement officers, lawyers, the procurement department, the executive or the owner of a company; and by journalists, public activists – in order to find all the investigations into the activities of the company or individual in question.

Where Does YouControl Get the Mass Media Data From?

Search engines are the most accessible source of information, so they become the first step to check the counterparty’s business reputation. But search engines should not be entirely relied on, because the companies that do not want to advertise negative data about themselves often simply delete such data, starting from certain materials to system resources.

In YouControl information will be preserved even if it disappears from the Internet.

Currently 6 600+ investigations have been collected over the last 12 years from 17 from authoritative sources. For example, "Slidstvo.info", "Schemes: Corruption in Detail", "Bihus.info", "Nashi groshi", "PROSUD", "IzbirKom" and "DoZorro" and others. Supplementing the system with materials from other trustworthy sources is planned.

Unlike in search engines, in YouControl information is clearly structured:

1. All data are identified by analysts by a code according to the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organisations of Ukraine or a full name.

2. Data are protected from deletion or alteration.

3. Data are collected from 4 authoritative organisations that conduct high-quality and reliable journalistic investigations.

4. While checking an individual in the tab "Links PRO", links between participants of investigations are automatically built.

How to "Enhance" Reputation Management with the Help of YouControl

If you are checking a company, enter its name or code according to the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organisations of Ukraine in the search line on the main page. If the company is mentioned in the mass media, it will be displayed on the left navigation menu in the line: "Media reputation".
